Overview

Step into Mongolia’s wild heart on this immersive 3-day journey to Hustai National Park—the first sanctuary where the once-extinct Przewalski’s horse (Takhi) roams free once more. Traverse sweeping steppes, rolling grasslands, and whispering sand dunes as you explore a land alive with wild horses, red deer, marmots, and soaring eagles.

Beyond the wildlife, connect with Mongolia’s living heritage: meet a welcoming nomadic family, discover ancient stone monuments, and ride horseback through timeless landscapes.

At night, rest under the stars in a traditional ger, embraced by the rhythms of nature and the warmth of Mongolian hospitality. This is more than a tour—it’s a journey into untamed beauty, cultural richness, and unforgettable adventure.

Itinerary

09:00 – Pick up from your hotel in Ulaanbaatar
Meet your English-speaking guide and settle into a private, comfortable vehicle for the approximately 2-hour scenic drive west to Khustai National Park. Enjoy views of Mongolia’s vast steppes and rolling hills as you leave the city behind.

11:00 – Arrival at Khustai National Park Visitor Center and Ger Information Center
Start your visit at the Ger Information Center, where you’ll watch a short documentary film about the conservation success story of the Przewalski’s horse (Takhi), the last truly wild horse species. Explore exhibits highlighting the park’s ecosystem and protection efforts.

11:30 – Visit the Mongol Bankhar Dog Project Field
Meet the majestic Mongol Bankhar, Mongolia’s ancient guardian dog breed. Walk through the outdoor cage enclosure to see these loyal and powerful dogs up close, perfect for photo and video opportunities. Learn about their vital role in protecting livestock, supporting nomadic herders, and preserving a unique part of Mongolia’s cultural heritage.

12:00 – Hustai National Park Wildlife Tour
Take a scenic drive deep into Khustai National Park for exceptional wildlife viewing. From there, join a guided walk to observe Mongolia’s rare Przewalski’s horses (Takhi) in their natural habitat. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of the open steppe, wildflower meadows, wetlands, and rolling hills—home to red deer, marmots, foxes, steppe eagles, falcons, and other native wildlife. The peaceful trails make this a perfect experience for birdwatching, photography, and immersing yourself in Mongolia’s rich natural beauty.

13:00 – Nomadic Family Visit & Traditional Mongolian Lunch
Drive south into Hustai National Park to visit your host nomadic family, who will warmly welcome you for a 2-night stay—your home away from home. Step into the rhythm of traditional Mongolian life and experience the rich pastoral heritage firsthand. Learn about their customs, daily routines, and herding lifestyle in an authentic, hands-on cultural exchange. After this immersive experience, enjoy a hearty Mongolian lunch at Hustai Resort, surrounded by the serene beauty of the national park.

Buhuu Helped Make My Trip Possible

I found Buhuu on Viator and started chatting with him. He made my trip to Mongolia much better by arranging transportation and guided tours with him on multiple days. With his help I was able to travel to some rural areas, try local food and get a sense for what life is like in Ulaanbaatar. I found that with his help I had someone I could trust who was local during my stay. His help was instrumental in making my trip to Mongolia a success.
